Edith Victoria McKeever Lang was born March 10,1970 and went to see her Heavenly Father August, 7, 2024.
Edie was born on a cold night in an Army hospital in Frankfurt, Germany. Her dad was worn out and came home from being on call as an Army Physician and said “Do not have that baby tonight!”, but of course, two hours later Miss Edith arrived! After her father completed military service in Europe, as a toddler Edie grew up outside Chicago in Hindsdale, Illinois, moving to Dallas while in elementary school.
Honoring her birthplace, Edie was President of the German Club in High School, a proud Richardson Eagle and Captain of the Eagle Guard and a member in the International Order of the Rainbow, a Masonic Leadership organization. She followed her passion of service into studying nursing at Texas Christian University in the Reserve Officers Training Corp (Army).
Edie graduated a proud Horned Frog and Army Lieutenant and served in various military and private hospitals including Ft Lewis, Ft Sam Houston, Ft Polk, Heart Hospital of Austin, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Baumholder, Germany, US Army Health Center Vicenza, Italy and ultimately continuing to serve her country in various roles within the US Food and Drug Administration and Dallas Veterans Hospital. As a Major in the US Army Nurse Corp, she also earned her Masters in Public Health and dedicated the recent part of her career towards supporting Military Veterans health & wellness as a Health Systems Specialist & Community Care Specialist at the Dallas VA.
She was blessed to have a marriage to Torsten Lang that brought her most wonderful accomplishment…her son Jack Tomas. Nothing made her happier than to share with others about Jack and support him any way she could. Bringing him joy and happiness was her mission. Knowing he recently graduated High School and was about to head off to college in the fall made her beam with joy and pride these last few months. He will do amazing things with his mom watching over him.
Edie was an incredible artist, maintained a vast collection of knick knacks & dolls, had no fear of speaking her mind, was an animal lover and enjoyed attending live concerts. She always marched to the beat of her own drum and had a booming voice & contagious laugh that filled a room. Hobbies of Edie included travel, visiting her favorite restaurants, watching baseball, doing latch hook to create a sense of calm and, for a time, knocking some heads in Roller Derby as Vroom Vroom Thunder Block. She loved her country and her role as an Army nurse. Her dedication to Veterans was evident in her often taking them to sporting events and going above and beyond to bring mental health awareness for Veterans to light.
Always seeking answers to who she was, Edie was very open about leading a life’s journey that was not always typical or traditional. Knowing she constantly sought to better herself is a blessing that those who knew her should be comforted with.
Edie was a believer in Jesus Christ and her unique drum will continue to beat in Heaven.
Edith is preceded in death by her father, Colonel Joseph W McKeever M.D. and siblings Mary Elizabeth and Eric Scott. In addition to leaving a legacy in Jack Tomas with former spouse Torsten Lang, Edith is survived by her mother Mimi McKeever-Groboski and partner Ron Groboski, siblings Sara Anderson (Andy), Joel McKeever (Michelle) and Colonel Patrick McKeever along with numerous nieces, nephews, uncle, cousins and friends that were like family.
