Angela Shaw Obituary

Angela Shaw (Jones) was born in Portsmouth, VA. In 1954 to Jesse Jones and Elsie Mae Jones. She was the third in the birth order of four children and the only girl. She was a premature baby arriving 2 months early and had to live her first two months in an incubator to survive. Her mother loved and always defended her, but it was not necessary because her father and brothers always spoiled their one and only sister. Angela’s father was in the United States Navy. Angela and her brothers grew up in various locations near Navy bases as the family moved every three years as her father received a new assignment. This made the family close and supportive of each other. Independence, and the ability to handle change were a major part of the family’s values.

Angela beat the odds of survival at birth and live a blessed life, but she did suffer with partial blindness due to her time in the incubator. However she never let her vision get in her way. She persevered through school, graduating from Central High School in Capitol Heights, Maryland, and attended college at the University of Maryland. She went on to work as a secretary and administrative assistant for private businesses and an attorney. Angela eventually worked for the federal government at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service Division. While there, she made many friends, and some became like family. Later due to health reasons, she was forced to retire early. But that didn't stop her from serving others. She lent a helping hand to anyone she could, from family and church family to the elderly in need. Angela lived a life full of love and service.

Angela always gave the credit to God for her miraculous life. She loved people, had a quiet dignity and a loving heart that invited you in. If you were within a few feet of her, she would let you know something about the Lord, or represent the love of God to you through kind words, a prayer, or a warm hug. In the beginning of her Christian walk, Angela was married to Alexander Person, the love of her life, and they became members of Christ Temple of Joy and then Word of Faith Ministries. Later after Alexander’s passing, she joined Greater Grace Temple (A Word of Grace) and raised her children there. She was an integral part of the ministry for 17 years as a praise and worship leader and evangelist. Angela deeply loved God and her church family.

Preceded in death by her parents Jesse Jones and Elsie Mae Jones, and Alexander Person (Husband). Survived by Stephanie Person and Patrick Farris (Daughter), Myron Jones (Son), Alexis Betts (Granddaughter), Gabrielle Jones (Granddaughter), Kaila Jones (Granddaughter), Iniko Betts (Grandson), Joelle Betts (Grandson), Amari Paige (Great Grandson) Kenneth and Belinda Jones( Brother) Kevin Jones and Rosalyn Jones (Brother) Jon and Marcia Jones (Brother) and a host of nieces and nephews. Angela will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest  in perfect peace sweet Mom, Sister, Wife and Friend forever cradled in God’s loving grace.
